A few weeks ago I got a couple hard drives to use as externals for my computer and Aimee's. I hooked the one up to hers and moved her "My Documents" folder to it to clear space on her C drive. Everything was fine for abot a week, then the computer couldn't read the drive anymore. I tried it on mine with the same result. The computer acknowledges that I'm hooking up a new device, but doesn't show the drive under "My Computer". I have gone into my "Disk Management" program and it shows there, but whenever I try to access it through there it seems to work and work and then my computer freezes up or at the very least I have to shut down to get out of the management program.

Does anyone know of a way to get the files back off of the drive? There are some things on there that I don't want to lose if at all possible. I've tried Seagate's Discwizard with the same results.

Thanks!

I'm afraid my 'Geek Days' have long since passed. The technology just keeps changing too quickly for me to keep up.

But if all else fails, I've found the Geek Squad at the local Best Buy to be fairly knowlegible. And they'll talk to you for free. Depending on the value of your data, their prices to fix things can be reasonable.

I'm sure the voices in your head have already told you to back everything up 'next time'. Listen to them. Jump drives (some ppl call them thumb drives) are cheap insurance and they come in nice big capacities.

Yeah, unfortunately the closest Best Buy is an hour away. I actually found the problem when I went to back up the data. :?
