I am not able to go to Nationals this year. Well, as I suspected, the turnaround (shutdown of a plant for repair/maintenance work) that I am on will run past its scheduled timeframe. I am a Mechanical Integrity Inspector (my day job) and we inspect equipment, tanks, and piping in refineries and chemical plants.

There is scheduled repair/maintenance work during a turnaround and then there is “discovery work”. Well the more we discover that needs to be repaired while doing our inspections, the more it changes the maintenance scope of the turnaround by adding to this list of existing repair work. The schedule for this turnaround ran right up to the day before Nationals and with the added items found so far, it will now run through Nationals. Next year I will schedule vacation.

Sorry to hear the news partner, was hoping to shake your hand this year.

I was very disappointed, because I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of great people! I will be at next year’s NATS, as well as, some other shows this year.

Shutdowns suck! I have a friend that works at the local refinery and they never go as scheduled. Shutdowns have trashed our plans more then I care to count.
