Hi all.

We have two Trans Ams, both black. One is a 78 and the other 80. We have decided to repaint the 1980 'Candy Apple Red', and put the gold Firebird on it with the gold pinstriping. In the black Trans Am the engine Bay is black. Is the engine bay black in all the other cars or is it the same colour at the outside of the cars? ie: Gold car - gold engine bay. Thanks.

There are many types of 'black'. The area where the front fenders wrap into the engine bay are body colored. As is the underside of the hood (if you remove the sound deadener). The firewall is a flat black while the inner fenders were usually a satin black (shinier than the firewall, but not high gloss). The upper A arms and cross members were gloss black, if you are going for a factory appearance. I don't have the codes handy, but Eastwood sells all the proper colors.

Thanks TransAmer99. I was curious because the Mustangs seem to be all black under the hood, no colour at all and with the two black cars it was hard to tell because they were all black. The 78 is stock standard and we are going to change the colour of the 80. I hope it looks good.

Have a merry Christmas and thanks.

The candy apple red should look great. When it comes time to paint my 81 T/A, I am going to paint it nocturne blue metallic.

My Bird came with the firewall body color but other than that it's pretty much as Transamer says.
