This is insane! I wouldn't ever give my car up without a good fight. If someone has a problem with me, that's fine, confront me and say whatever you want to say...but you mess with my car...that's another ballgame.

Wow, that is amazing. I would certainly not have taken the chance anyway with a car worth that much. Why take the chance and do a burn out?

Boy, the cops down there know how to rake it in, huh? I wonder how big their houses are.

We have a friend who is a cop. Her partner put his car in to be tuned and it was in there for a couple of days. He was taking the car to Powercruise which is a 3 day event at a racetrack and he just finished the motor and needed the tune up on the motor. He went to pick it up and the mechanic took the car out of the garage and did a large burnout in the car park out the front of the workshop.
The cops came along and confiscated the car for 2 days. He nominated for quite a few events at Powercruise and couldn't go in it. If he had of rang her straight away, she could have arranged to get the car before it was taken away, but he rang a friend and in that time the tow truck was there and she couldn't get the car back. He was P@ssed off after spending all the money of the car getting it ready and he couldn't go in any events. Especially when it wasn't even him who did the burnout.

Here's the key to their motive right here.

"In the first two months of the year, NSW police had seized a total of 84 cars, generating significant revenue.

"There's a lot of money being put into these motor vehicles," Botany Bay Local Area Commander Ron Mason told 2GB radio today. "

It has less to do with laws than it does lining their pockets.

"Following the raid, a group of upset car owners, including relatives and friends, converged at the Roads and Traffic Authority impound lot to protest the police action. Although no violence was reported, authorities responded by calling out the riot squad."

Reminds me of some of the scenes you see on the news of China and Eastern Europe.

Over here if you drive without proper paperwork ie insurance, road fund license etc then yes they can take your car, but as it stands driving daft just inccurs points on your licence which means a possible ban, higher insurance premiums.

We have had photos on the news of young American guys, who have had their cars taken off them, and they are crushed in a crusher in front of them. That's where our cops are getting it from.

Our kids get the car taken off them for 1 day for the first offence, then a week for the second and for the third you lose the car altogether. It is not right being able to take your car and after all the money the guys put into their cars.

Also if they are hooning in someone elses car, it gets taken also. It doesn't matter whos car it is. Some guy lost his Mothers' car.

Thats Harsh!!

Does it drive it all underground?

When i was younger i used to do alot of street racing, we had an area where we used to go away from the town centre, the cops left us alone as we self regulated and they knew where we all were.

I could tell you some more stories about racing and the law, but some sounds far fetched, it did to my wife as well until an old friend that i hadnt seen for years , starting to talk about the " good ol days " to which my wife was not overly impressed as he went a little far!
He revealed a little more than i had....

Im grown up and im a father now and find myself driving alot slower, well most of the time!

The sound of a V8 in song is too temoting sometimes!

I'm an old guy, I doubt they'll be too far fetched to me. I had a few street drags with a couple of the local officers, way back when.

Those were the good old days too!

Just for us Americans who are in the dark here, what is a road fund license?

Its a way of " screwing " more money out of motorists!!

IN order for you to drive your car or truck on a public highway you have to pay tax ( road fund license ) dependent on the age or size of the vehicle it varies but you can pay nearly a $1000 a year , thats before fuel insurance etc!!

HotWings, just an example if i was up to no good and i was being persued by the law , i would weigh up my options, what size car ( speed and power ) where they driving? how close where they etc etc, if i thought i had a chance id just gun it and aim to get away, ive been chased more times than i care to remember, ive been clocked doing 120mph + in a 30 limit, ive been escorted out of towns before ive got to them...... at one point i was getting stopped every day when driving, it got so bad that i even got a book on motoring law so i knew where i stood when i did get stopped.
Theres nothing finer than telling the law that they are wrong and quoting it to them!

Some of it looking back was highly dangerous and in no way a good thing to do and i dont recommend it, but ive been driving off road from an early age and learnt how to control a car, i even done time trials and track time, circuit and strip so without being rude i know how to handle a car , but on a public highway its not always you at fault!!!

I apologise if this comes across as arrogant, its really not meant in that way.
